These Programs Are Currently Recruiting Volunteers:
Ombudsman Program

Volunteering with an ombudsman program is a powerful way to advocate for individuals who may not be able to speak up for themselves, especially residents in long-term care facilities. As a volunteer, you help ensure that people’s rights are respected, their concerns are heard, and their quality of life is protected. It’s a meaningful role that builds empathy, communication, and problem-solving skills while allowing you to make a direct, positive impact. By offering your time and support, you become a trusted voice for fairness, dignity, and compassionate care in your community.

State Health Insurance Program

By helping individuals—especially seniors and those with disabilities—understand their health coverage options, you empower them to make informed decisions and avoid costly mistakes. It’s also a rewarding opportunity to build communication skills, gain knowledge about healthcare systems, and connect with people from diverse backgrounds. Ultimately, your time and effort can provide clarity, confidence, and peace of mind to those who need it most.

 Tax Counseling for the Elderly

The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program is a free tax preparation service designed to help adults age 60 and over and individuals with disabilities file accurate federal and state tax returns. Volunteers receive IRS-certified training and ongoing support, so no prior tax experience is required, just a willingness to learn and serve. TCE offers several rewarding volunteer roles to match different skills and interests. Site Coordinators oversee daily site operations, manage schedules, and ensure a smooth, welcoming experience for both volunteers and taxpayers. Tax Preparers work one-on-one with clients to prepare accurate tax returns using IRS-approved software. Facilitators or Intake Professionals greet taxpayers, assist with paperwork, verify documents, and help keep the process organized and efficient. By volunteering in any of these roles, you help provide a trusted, essential service that eases financial stress for community members while gaining valuable skills and making a meaningful impact during tax season.

Circle of Friends Program

AgeSouth Circle of Friends program provides companionship, support, and social connection for older adults who may feel isolated or lonely. Phone calls, help seniors build meaningful relationships and maintain emotional well-being. Circle of Friends encourages independence while fostering a sense of belonging and connection within the community.

Help combat senior isolation. We need Seniors to make quick, check in calls to those homebound or isolated. You will be trained by RSVP staff to make lighthearted calls to those who just need to connect with a friendly caller

Matter of Balance

Volunteering for the A Matter of Balance program is a great way to help older adults build confidence, stay active, and reduce their risk of falls. As a volunteer, you support participants in learning practical strategies to improve balance, overcome fear of falling, and maintain independence. It’s a rewarding opportunity to encourage healthier lifestyles while developing leadership and communication skills. By giving your time, you play an important role in promoting safety, well-being, and a higher quality of life in your community.

Silver Sweepers

For many elderly neighbors, a clean and safe home is not just comfort-it’s essential to their health, dignity, and independence. Unfortunately, limited mobility, fixed incomes, and health challenges often make routine household cleaning an overwhelming task. That’s why Silver Sweepers is working to recruit caring volunteers to help provide free, light house cleaning services for seniors who are no longer able to manage these tasks on their own. A few hours of your time can restore not only a home, but peace of mind and pride for someone who has given so much to our community.

We welcome individuals age 19 and older. No professional cleaning experience is required. Cleaning supplies will be provided as well as compensation for mileage. All volunteers will receive basic guidelines and support to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone involved.
